So, I have this dog named Leroy and he is a big boy. I also have this husband named Joe and he, too, is a big boy. Joe works out regularly and uses supplements and protein powders. Leroy works out by playing with Roxie in the snowy backyard, and he likes protein powders, but he is unable to purchase them to have at his convenience. There was this one time when Joe left his gym bag on the floor in the entryway/living room area and it was a cold day outside, so Leroy got to be in the house. When we got home, we discovered Leroy's sniffer actually worked (we often wonder if he can really smell like he should be able to), because he sniffed out Joe's extremely difficult to open Tupperware container filled with protein powder, managed to pry the cover off and indulged in every last powdery grain of that stuff. What lesson should have been learned here and by who (or whom, I'm really not gramatically inclined)?
Now back to the present: Leroy is five now, so he is likely at the middle of his life on this earth. I have taken over custody of him, since Joe has a new bitch in his life (I can say that because that's what she is, really). Leroy gets to be in the house during the day while we are away at work, because he is a good boy and it is cold outside. We know that we have to put the garbage in the closet when we leave Leroy alone, because he is a dog after all and he has proved to us that if we don't he will destroy it. So when I got home today and saw some of Joe's clothes laying outside of the bag, along with his shaving bag (not chewed up, just pulled out of the bag), and then discovered little broken pieces of plastic in another area of the living room, and then looked over at Leroy's bed and discovered the emty Tupperware container (same one) with the little scoop at the bottom, I LAUGHED because it was really funny to me. Joe forgot to zip up his gym bag that he leaves laying on the floor in the living room, and he forgot to put his protein powder up high, and that's what happened. So, who is at fault here? I need some help with this because Joe and I are in disagreement about this matter and Joe seems to think that the 'stupid dog' should never be allowed in the house again 'I don't care how cold it is outside.' I think that if that is the case, then Joe should receive a punishment similar to Leroy's. Please help us with this one by taking one of our fun and fabulous polls to the right. We would appreciate it.

I say Joe leaves his duffle bag outside a few times of putting on cold gym clothes will remind him that people and dogs make mistakes!
Katie.....you are just too funny! First, let me say that I love you Joe and I love you Leroy. However, the human species has a larger brain and, therefore, greater capacity to use logic :o) Don't misunderstand me Leroy...I do think you are a really smart dog..but I'm on your side...a dog just follows his natural instincts...usually pretty primal. I've cast my vote and don't think either Leroy or Joe should be banned from the house. I will be watching the results of this survey. Mom Deb
Ok seriously, I had this great reply & then lost it because I had to create an account...try again..
I have to side with you & Leroy. The bag was left open which essentially grants full access...how was Leroy supposed to know he wasn't supposed to go in the bag to retrieve the delightful powdery treat? After all he is just a "stupid dog".
So, after all this protein, is Leroy, like, super bulked up? Will he be posing for the next Canine Muscle Magazine? And, is the side effect of protein memory loss? As in, Joe has no recollection of the last protein incident?
It wont let me vote again but 5 votes from the hodnys saying: Joe needs to learn a lesson and: no he is just a dog

being a dog owner of 2 now, one being WAY smarter than the other, i have had to learn to adapt to the dog. it is part of being a dog owner. sometimes they do dumb stuff, just like kids and adults.
I side with, well I'm not sure, Joe should know by now not to leave anything where little, or big ones can get at. Just quit using the protein and leave the trash in the closet and life goes on. :-)
"He who has opposable thumbs wins." Sorry Leroy.
